Subjects you will study in September 2011
  • Composing Music - Year 2 focuses on composition techniques to create original rock, pop and dance music. In year 2 you will compose soundtracks and music for TV adverts, cartoons or computer games, film and live performance.
  • Producing Music - In year one you will learn how to use the sound studio, record bands and also create a number of remixes of commercial tracks. In year 2 you will take your music production further by producing an artsist as well as producing your own tracks ready for release online via 'SC Records' in April.
  • Performing Music - In the first year you will learn to work as a band to compose original music. In year 2 you will work with dance and/or art students to produce music for performance. The big project will then be to compose and perform music for a silent film at Strode Theatre in June.
  • Engineering Music -  You will study live sound techniques and sound recording techniques in the studio. There are opportunities to run the sound and/or stage for performances. This is an important part of the course oevr both year 1 and year 2
  • Understanding Music - You will study audio engineering principles and acoustics to give you a background in the technical aspects fo sound and sound equipment. In the listening skills unit you will learn how to listen to and analyse musical elements and commercial mixes
What do you take away from a BTEC Music Technology course Strode College?
  • Music production show reel including music tracks recorded and mixed by you in the studio. Solo artists, bands or any combination of live musicians and technology. 
  • Composition show reel including TV advert, cartoon soundtrack, collaborative work with dancers and your film music. (Plus any other music tracks composed and produced in Logic software
  • A music video that you have shot and edited
  • Graphic work such as CD covers, website graphics and posters.
  • A video of the 'launch party' organised by you to promote your music and the artists you have produced
  • A video of the large scale 'silent film' music performance at Strode Theatre
  • Skills, knowledge and experience in many aspects of music production, promotion and performance.
Is this courses right for me?
  • Are you a musician, DJ or budding music producer?
  • Do you want to gain work in the music Industry?
  • You do not need GCSE Music or to be able to read music notation
  • Playing an instrument is an advantage but we consider the computer and decks to be instruments. Students are encouraged to use technology to perform music.
